The Economic and Social Council and the Commission constitute a three-tiered intergovernmental mechanism that plays the primary role in the follow-up to the implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Commission, as a functional commission assisting the Council, monitors, reviews, and assesses the implementation of the Programme of Action at the national, regional, and international levels and advise the Council thereon.

This year’s Commission on Population and Development (CPD) focuses on the theme of “Realizing the Future We Want: Integrating Population Issues into Sustainable Development, Including in the Post-2015 Development Agenda”.  It will be held from April 13 to 17 at the United Nations in New York, NY.
